new gig.

I am leaving the hedge fund (the fund) I’ve been working at and heading to “Goliath National Bank”. The fund was a great opportunity at the time, but it was time to go. I was becoming stagnant and wanted to find an opportunity that would allow a little more growth. Out of the blue, Goliath National Bank called me. I had a brief interview on the phone with some very nice guys, and at the end of it I asked “where is the office located”. – my future boss replied “we don’t go to an office, we all work at home”. I was sold.

Since I’ve moved out to Long Island, I’ve been looking for banks and funds headquarterd out here. I had finally lost all hope of finding a job in Suffolk county in my industry that would pay me a similar salary as I would get going into Manhattan. Suffolk has only have one notable hedge fund and no investment banks out here. Goliath National Bank is both an investment and consumer bank. My job will be more on the consumer side, but it deals with some really interesting technology infrastructure, which at the end of the day is really what I do. I build/support/maintain technology infrastructure for banks and hedge funds.

For the geeks that read this:
Lots of Linux and AIX operating systems.
IBM Power 6 boxes, loads of data warehousing products and giant storage. I started learning AIX at “the fund”, so I’m really happy that I’ll get a chance to really dive into it here at GNB. I’ve always wanted to work with this OS and this will give me the chance to become an expert with it.
