NYC Subway Stop 53rd street & 5th Avenue (E) & (M) lines / MTA construction in general

The 5th Avenue and 53rd Street subway station in NYC has two escalators (one of which are on either side of this staircase), of which one is nearly always down. Not the same one mind you, it could be either of them. According to the MTA, the escalators have been down for THREE months. That’s actually a little misleading. That would lead you to believe that one of the escalators has been out of order. In truth, the MTA can’t get either of them to work properly and they take turns being shut down. If you followed the above link, you’ll see that a lot of escalators have been down for months at a time. The lady at token booth won’t give me a person’s name that is in charge of the subway station to complain to. I’m not the only one to complain: http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2791.

So with spotty service like this, why does the MTA continually raise prices? I’ll tell you why, it’s my guess that its because of out of control constructions costs. The MTA repaved a parking lot at the Ronkonkoma LIRR train station. It took 1 year to do it. Seriously, 1 full year of construction workers repaving a parking lot. The supermarket nea my house repaved their parking lot (the same size) in under a week.

The Atlantic Avenue subway station (sometimes called the Flatbush Avenue or Pacific Avenue trainstaions .. depending on which subway or train line you take there, though its really the same place) has been under construction for YEARS.

The MTA is completely mismanaged. Their motto should be:
We’re the MTA; We’re not happy until you’re not happy”!
