It’s a waste of money to get one of these degrees. You want to do what you love? That’s ok. You don’t need to go to college for it.

Professional artist/Former professor here. The only students I ever had who are working pros now we’re the ones who would have been drawing and painting on their own, whether I told them to or not. There were people who acted like doing assignments were pulling teeth. Most of ones who wanted it and worked like they wanted it are doing fine. That said, I’ve seen a LOT of kids with no skill and no drive who have no chance. I’ve also seen high school kids with better work than graduating college seniors who can’t be talked out of wasting their money on a degree. No one cares about a degree. Companies only care the quality of the work. The only jobs for which an art degree really matters are college teaching jobs. And there are FAR too many shitty artists working as college professors who have NEVER worked as professionals in the field the are teaching.
