Being a suburban kinda guy myself these days, I guess I’ve fallen into being a bit of a steriotype: http://burbia.com/suburban-man
It’s kind of funny, but everything in that article is completely true, especially the grillin’ stuff. Within a few weeks of moving to suburbia, 90% of my meals come off the grill. Grilled veggies, Grilled steakes/chicken/cheeseburgers/sausage/hotdogs/pork/ you name it; it goes on the grill. We surburban guys are expert grillers. We also love bubba burgers; the sweet onion ones are the best. They really do make a huge difference. If you haven’t tried them, you should at least pick up one package to see what I’m talking about.
I also picked up a slow cooker (wedding present that I’ve finally unpacked). I love my slow cooker. In my first outting with it, I did ribs. They cooked with maple beans and franks redhot for 10 hours. The meat fell off the bone. Then I did chicken for 7 hours with garlic, onions, chopped peppers and some red-hot. The food that comes out of that slow cooker is just a little slice of heaven.

My wife and I went up to Ct this weekend to check out the Ct. RollerGirls at the Roller Derby. We’re big fans of the Roller Derby, and have seen a number of Gotham Girls and Long Island Roller Rebels match ups. I was even considering becoming a ref. I had a name picked out and everthing (Leathal Refin’). Alas, It did not come to fruition, though if any other potential roller derby ref wants the name, feel free to take it.
At any rate, this is the first trip up to Ct. to see it. It was a slaughter; the Boston Massacre totally walloped the girls from Ct.; which is a shame, cause that’s who I was rooting for. Partially because some of the LI Roller Rebels were rollin’ with em, but also since most Boston people are Red Sox fans, and they deserve a beat down anyway.

We were invited upstate NY to the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival. While I’m not a huge fan of bluegrass music, I’ll be the first to admit that from a technial standpoint, bluegrass musicians are amongst the best. We had a nice time, We stayed with Rosie’s dad and sisters + family at their dad’s summer house, just a few minutes away from the festival.
On Sunday, we went to Howe Caverns, caves, 16 stories below the earth. Of course we did a little grilling over the weekend as well,
Mom & Dad came out on Saturday, so Rosie and I spend most of Friday cleaning the house and doing food shopping. Late Friday night, I broke out the crock pot and made some ribs and beans, w/onions. It cooked on low for 11 hours, before switching to warm. It was ready in time for lunch on Saturday. It was delicious with a little Franks Red Hot. We watched the Yankee game, shot up to WallMart for a few odds and ends and then I started grilling dinner. Since getting the grill, I’ve become quite the expert.. People come from far and wide to experience the magic that happens on that grill. It’s really something to behold.
After dinner, we sat out in the yard. I started a fire in our chiminea, and as it grew dark we watched the fireworks all around us. Apparently people in Suffolk County LI like they’re fireworks. Things were exploding in the sky till midnight. We sat out with a glass of wine near the fire and had a terrific view.
Mom and Dad bolted early Sunday morning after breakfast. Rosie and I ran a few errands got massages, and then we picked up a new hammock for the back yard. Rosie made a sensation grilled fish dinner with grilled veggies and mango. Flippin; yum. Afterwards we drove down to Mascot Dock in Patchouge where we sat out on a bench overlooking the “Grat South Bay” and watched the Moonlight light up the bay.
